City Run to mark 7th anniversary
A CITY Run will be held this Saturday to mark Alor Setar City’s seventh anniversary.
The run, to be flagged off at 7.45am from the Darulaman Stadium, will feature categories for primary and secondary school children, adults and disabled persons.
The distance for the Men’s and Women’s Open categories will be 10km while the secondary school children (boys and girls) and veterans (men and women) will cover a distance of 7km.
The primary school children and disabled participants will run 5km.
Cash and hampers will be presented to the winners.
Alor Setar mayor Datuk Khazali Din said that in order to draw the crowd and make the run a success, a colouring competition for children and a bird singing contest would be held at the stadium during the event.
He said there would also be a lucky draw offering attractive prizes which would be held after the prize presentation to the winners of the run.

让路双轨火车新驿站 大年老火车站走入历史
为让路吉先进双轨火车新驿站（吉总站），高达90岁高龄的老火车站经于周一遭遇拆除的命运。
双溪大年铁道局建于1920年，属于受到保护的古典建筑物之一。负责火车新驿站展示图的铁道局人员受询时透露，当局拆除现有的旧火车站，在原地重建2层楼新火车站建筑物，设计宏伟壮观，是一级棒先进火车站，候车亭及月台设计，设施全新，水平可媲美吉隆坡顶尖火车站的概念。全盘计划预料将于2012年竣工。
在双溪大年地方发展大蓝图中，清楚列明见证历史的双溪大年大钟楼附近火车站，是受保护的老古典建筑物之一。想不到，老古董火车站抵不过发展洪流，在高达90岁高龄时，面对被拆除的命运。
该火车站经开始进行拆除工程。
承包商苏基里受询时表示，这项拆除工程经费近2万令吉，一切进行顺利的话，在最快一个星期内将会完成拆除工作。
他表示，拆除工作是于周一开始展开，陈旧屋瓦容易破裂，拆除屋瓦时必须小心翼翼，避免破坏建筑材料。他并表示，聘有10名工友负责拆除工作，以其在最快时间内完成拆除工作。
建货柜临时火车站 启用临时交替铁道
面对拆除号令，在3个星期前，铁道局在附近另建立货柜临时火车站、售票处及候车处。并正式启用临时交替铁道。
候车处与月台有一段距离，月台属于危险地带，公众不可私自闯入月台，以避免意外发生。在铁道局人员的指示下，开启通道门，乘客才可进入月台，安全登上列车。此外，食堂也一样被迁移至临时火车站旁。
7商家遭迫迁
火车新驿站涉及的层面广，在老街场轨道附近经营小生意的7商家，还有租赁地皮的“日东市场”也遭铁道局迫迁，前者安置在施里德敏商业中心后部，后者则自行觅地经商。
而工程发展商金务大早在2008年在合众园穿越百大年花园轨道施工。猪廊桥加宽工程也如火如荼进行。
峇里莎改建高架天桥
拆除峇里莎天桥，以进行高架天桥工程，导致黄金时间出现交通严重阻塞现象。
为了配合双轨火车站计划，当局大刀阔斧进行改道计划，于去年10月间关闭峇里莎天桥，改建高架天桥，此举是避免火车车杆碰触天桥，可以顺利川行。
改道是双溪大年人民的厄梦，警局原有一个火车栅门，随着改道计划，前往峇里莎处，又多了一个火车栅门，在黄金时间，即上放学时刻，适逢火车“过档”，市民得耐心等候，浪费时间精神。
黄思敏：建筑物迁移成定局
市议员黄思敏受询时表示，迁移火车站建筑物已成定局。惟不知正确的迁移点。只晓得是在银禧花园附近一带。
双溪大年铁道火车站站长再迪表示，每天都有一趟火车川行吉隆坡及曼谷。也有载客往北海，大山脚等地。
询及火车栅门每天关闭次数时，其表示不知情，只透露很多次而已。根据估计显示，每天最少39次火车川行，包括4次载客卸客。
MMC-GAMUDA VENTURE承建公司工程经理沙依米不讳言在关闭峇里莎天桥，势必引起市民诸多不便，希望大家忍耐通融，一俟改道工程竣工时，市民将享有良好的火车设施，促进地方上的发展，也带动周边商业欣欣向荣，坐收经济效益。

HOTELIERS and travel agents have given the thumbs-up to the new cable car night service on weekends, public holidays and school holidays at Gunung Mat Chinchang in Langkawi.
More than 100 of them rode the cable car on Wednesday night and all of them welcomed the idea, saying it would become a new tourist attraction for the island.
Travel agent S. Vikneswaran from Meenviks Nature Holidays Sdn Bhd said the night ride should be complemented with more activities on the middle and top stations for the visitors.
“The ride alone is good but there should be more activities at both stations for the visitors,” he said.
Langkawi-Online Sdn Bhd director Harry Wan said activities such as cocktail parties could be held for foreign tourists.
Berjaya Hotel general manager Graeme L Dwyer said that the hotel had on several occasions organised cocktail receptions on top of the hill for its guests.
He added that since it is now open to the public the hotel was willing to work with Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (PLSB) to hold the receptions or other activities on the hill.
The night service on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, public and school holidays is until 10pm
From the summit of the 705m-high mountain, visitors would be able to see the island’s night life, including glowing lights from boats and yachts, buildings and the Langkawi International airport.
PLSB chief operating officer Ebi Azly Abdullah said there are more than 30 gondolas for the cable car service which operate at intervals of about 15 minute per ride from the foot of the mountain to the top station.
Tickets are priced at RM30 and RM20 for adult and children (aged between three and 12 years) respectively.
He said that PLSB would gradually include more activities to make the night ride more fun and entertaining.
Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) general manager Datuk Azman Umar said he hoped the new service would boost the number of tourists to the island.
The cable car operates from 10am until 6pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday but on Wednesday it starts only at noon until 6pm.

2月7日年初五，从早到晚，活动不间断，有街舞比拼、桌球大赛、文化展甚至电子吉他乐队现场演唱会，唱的是摇滚新年歌，当然不会少了舞蹈、扯玲、变脸等项目。
这是一场以联繫离乡背景多年，返家觉得故乡已陌生，朋友已渐少的游子而办的活动，活动主力即吉打青团运之前已通过互联网，以及各个可能的平台作出號召，希望年初五真能展现吉打青年游子聚集一堂的场面。
由於活动目標锁定人在外州、外国的吉打青年男女，青团运除了发动吉打州內的人力、物力、財力，也获总部大专共策局的支援，一起参与號召遍佈国內外的吉打青年新春返乡齐活动。
黄俊嫻：发挥各局作用
回乡日需眾多人力
也是青团运吉打州分会受邀委员的青团运总部大专共策局委员黄俊嫻说，青团运吉打州分会更从2009年开始把理事会分成大专事务局、女青年局、公民教育局、政府事务局、咨询局、文化局和青年发展局，这次筹办“第一届吉打青年回乡日”，是眾多项目集一堂，需要眾多人力参与的活动，正可发挥各局的作用。
青团运吉打州主席张文忠、州秘书陈志忠对筹备工作进展感到满意，目前仍在努力结合各方力量，希望可號召更多吉打青年男女来参与。
人在吉隆坡积极推动这一计划的青团运吉打州秘书陈志忠胸有成竹，相信第一届发动即使做得不够周全，却年来年不断努力，將之打造为吉打青年每年返乡聚集活动的平台。
