Floods: More evacuated in Kedah and Perlis
The number of flood evacuees in Kedah hit more than 28,000 Thursday morning, up 1,000 from Wednesday figure, after the flood situation worsened in four districts.
Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena and Pendang recorded a higher number of people forced to leave their homes although the situation in Padang Terap has improved.
Kubang Pasu had the highest number of evacuees at 15,637, followed by Padang Terap (3,219), Kota Setar (1,788), Pokok Sena (1,259) and Pendang (158), among other areas.
A spokesman at the operations centre here said 104 relief shelters were opened, including 46 in Kubang Pasu and 35 in Padang Terap.
However, 774 people in the Padang Terap area have been allowed to go home after the situation improved.
The flood in Kota Setar has worsened and the water level rose although the rain had stopped.
Over in Kangar, the number of flood victims has hit 13,723. An operations room spokesman said the number of evacuees had increased from the 11,000 as of Wednesday night.
Most of those evacuated are from the state capital while the situation in the northern part of the state is improving.
