玻大臣欢迎游客参观朱宾超级水果谷

玻璃市州务大臣拿督斯里阿兹兰欢迎游客到来参观被誉为东南亚最大及全马唯一的无花果种植园”超级水果谷”(Superfruit Valley)。

他说,游客可以在前往毗邻马泰边境的巴东勿刹时,途经朱宾路到”超级水果谷”。

他说,游客向来在巴东勿刹旅游时,都是逛边境的买卖市集而已,如今,他们的行程可再增加一个观光地点,体验大自然的农业旅游,也延长在玻州逗留的时间。


超级水果谷位于玻州朱宾。

他说,配合2021年玻州旅游年,玻州政府已把朱宾超级水果谷列为本地农业旅游的产品之一,并开始向外大力推广,以吸引国内外的游客慕名而来,借此增加玻州收入。

阿兹兰出席颁发证书给6名在朱宾超级水果谷完成6个月农业培训的实习生后,这么说。

占地125英亩的朱宾超级水果谷,是由Fig Direct私人有限公司于2016年注资及开发。

该公司的执行董事林伟荣说,他向玻州政府申请后,获得批准建造一段长达约3公里的路段直通果园,如今已开放给大众自行驾车驶入果园参观。


果园内种植无花果、柠檬、桑果、巴西莓、石榴、木鱉果、百香果等,皆是高价值水果。

从入口处驾车驶入果园的一路上,一望无际的园地映入眼帘,让人们视觉上的放松,享受大自然的美景。

“It is very difficult to earn even RM20 a day. They (Thais) just hop over easily and offer fares that are much lower and steal our customers, ” lamented a 46-year-old taxi driver who wanted to be known only as Amran.

He complained that the situation involving the transport operators from Thailand has persisted for years.

“...depa (they) operate as though they are immune to the law and are free to pick up passengers, ” he said when met at the Padang Besar taxi stand here.

He said these illegal operators not only ferry passengers around Padang Besar but also transport workers of Thai restaurants in Penang, Alor Setar and Seremban to renew their social visit passes at the Padang Besar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex.

Most of these illegal operators, he said, were from Pattani and Songkhla in southern Thailand and carried out their activities during the school holidays and weekends.

Amran disclosed that they had three illegal stands around here, one in front of the Padang Besar Railway Station, another in front of Arked Niaga Padang Besar and the other in front of the Padang Besar Fire and Rescue Station and that it is not difficult to identify the vehicles because they have tinted windows and Thai registration plates.

“When the JPJ (Road Transport Department) officers are on patrol, they just ‘disappear’, ” he said.

“This is all I made today, not even RM20 toiling from morning to evening. If it continues, I don’t know how I will feed my wife and children, ” he said, showing a RM10 note and a few RM1 notes that he had.

Amran said he and several other fellow taxi drivers have lodged complaints with the authorities and even furnished photographs and video recordings of the illegal activities.

“The patrols carried out by the authorities are not enough to stamp out this menace, ” he said.

Also affected by these kereta sapu (pirate taxis) is a fellow taxi driver identified only as Rahmat, 52, who claims that the local taxi drivers are living a hand-to-mouth existence now, unlike five years ago.

He has been in the business over the last 11 years and recounted the good old days when the returns were lucrative with domestic and foreign tourists alike patronising their services because they (tourists) did not have much choice then.

“Now, they (the pirates) not only pick up passengers on the Malaysian side but also bring passengers in and out of Thailand.

“Depa (they) are having the best of both worlds, ” he said.

If kereta sapu and vans are not bad enough, he revealed, there is now the added menace of motosikal sapu (pirate motorcyclists) from Thailand.

The father of four said that, to his knowledge, they are only allowed to operate in Thailand and cannot pick up passengers on the Malaysian side.

Checks by Bernama found the pirate cars, vans and motorcycles from Thailand operating daily, from 10am to 6pm.

During the Chinese New Year festive season, Bernama found about 50 pirate motorcycles operating, charging fares ranging from RM7 to RM10 for a trip to Padang Besar town on the Thai side.

Rahmat said the authorities, including the state government, must think of ways to overcome the problem. “If this is not cleaned up, my taxi will end up a rust bucket, ” he said. — Bernama

Four more ETS services for CNY

Four more ETS services for CNY

KTMB will add four more ETS services for the Chinese New Year holidays, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the Cabinet has approved the use of new ETS train sets to run additional services from Jan 20 to 24 for north-bound destinations from KL Sentral to Butterworth, as well as from KL Sentral to Padang Besar.

Likewise, additional services will also run from Jan 27 to 31.

These additional services offer 12,480 seats, which includes 1,440 business class seats.

Tickets for these additional services for CNY will be sold beginning today.

Loke made the announcement after visiting the railway yard here owned by Dhaya Maju Infrastructure (Asia) Sdn Bhd (DMIA).

He was there along with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who made his maiden visit to this facility that supports the rehabilitation of KTMB’s Klang Valley Double Track undertaken jointly by DMIA and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera.

Dr Mahathir expressed satisfaction with what he saw and said that Malaysians must learn to undertake more complex engineering and construction challenges, even if it seems more costly at the beginning.

“I don’t care so much about the savings, but we can’t keep on importing from others.

“We must learn and we have to pay the costs. Initially, it won’t be so good, but ultimately we will reach the standard of other countries.

“If we keep on buying, we will never develop this country,” said Dr Mahathir.

In the Asean region, only Malaysia is operating electrified inter-city train services.

Electric Train Service provides smooth ride from Kuala Lumpur to Perlis



Commuter Vincent Khor feels the interior of the electric train operated by Malayan Railways is comfortable and cosy. There are even power sockets under the seats.

I was very excited about taking Malaysia’s Electric Train Service (ETS) from Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Arau, Perlis, for the very first time.

It was probably the best decision I made on this trip – to travel by electric train instead of car or plane during the Labour Day weekend in April/May, to participate in the Perlis Marathon.

I bought my Malayan Railways ETS train ticket online.

When I fly, I prefer an aisle seat in the centre of the plane. I decided to make the same seat selection for the train ride. From the online ticketing system, I couldn’t tell if the seat I had chosen was facing the direction the train would be moving or the other way around. And I also couldn’t tell if the cafeteria was in the same coach.

What I was looking forward to was a nice, cosy seat with peace, quiet and privacy so that I could get some sleep. I needed some rest ahead of the marathon, which was held exactly one minute past midnight on the day I arrived.

While waiting for the train, scheduled to depart KL Sentral Station at 7.05am, I bumped into so many runners, some of whom I knew. They were also planning to take the same train and take part in the same marathon.

As I was about to board, I saw Kin K Yum (the marathoner, photographer and newspaper columnist) pushing his foldable bike and walking towards the train platform. I chatted with him for a while. He told me he was waiting for another friend Chan Wai Yee, who I met later, who also brought along a foldable bike. That was such an awesome idea – travelling with foldable bike for leisure cycling after the run in Perlis!

We found out that we were in different coaches so off we went to our separate seats.

TRAIN TO PERLIS

As I entered Coach C, I passed through a nice-looking cafeteria.

My seat was in a four-seat layout, with two seats facing another two, and a blue table in the middle. Throughout the journey, I was not be able to stretch my legs comfortably. Or if I took a nap, strangers sitting across me would be able to watch me all the time.

I was worried I would snore, or saliva would drool from my open mouth, in front of strangers. What if a fellow passenger decided to take a video of me snoring and upload it onto YouTube or Facebook? That made me wonder how I could sleep throughout the five-hour ride.

Five minutes after the train departed, Kin (or "KK" as his friends call him) came over to ask if I wanted to join him and the other runners in their coach. I thought all the seats were sold out! KK then told me that he bought an extra seat, which he was offering to me. My prayers were answered! I would have some peace and a restful journey.

FROM KL TO IPOH

The journey would have 14 stops before its scheduled arrival in Arau at 12.13pm. Pretty fast and efficient.

I found out that the train was moving at speeds averaging around 120kmh, reaching 150kmh at times. However, inside the train, one didn’t feel the speed at all as it ran very smoothly. It was a great way to travel, and we beat the traffic jams along the North-South Expressway!

From cityscapes, the views morphed into smaller towns with lush green vegetation before arriving at the old and beautiful Ipoh train station.

FROM IPOH TO ARAU

The journey from Ipoh saw an even more noticeable change in the landscape. I could spot more oil palm plantations, more forests, and finally padi fields, especially in Kedah. I got excited when the train passed the freshwater lake at Bukit Merah near Taiping. It was the lake I swam in when I took part in the 113 Triathlon last year.

We got off the train at Arau station. We then took the bus to Kangar, where the marathon would be held.

Before we arrived, I suggested to KK and Wai Yee to assemble their foldable bikes in the spacious air-conditioned train.

To our surprise, the train attendant did not object to them assembling their bikes in the train. In fact, he was courteous and friendly.

I was so impressed by the whole train experience – it was unforgettable, awesome and pleasant.

JPJ: Malaysia to implement VEP fee at Thai border

Malaysia will implement road charges and the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system at the Thai border soon, said the Road Transport Department.

Its director-general Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron said the Transport Ministry was studying the matter and carrying out surveys on the number of vehicles crossing bordering states in Perlis, Kedah, Perak and Kelantan.

"JPJ as the executing agency has started its work at all the border states. It will be the same as how it is implemented at the Johor Baru–Singapore border.

"The charges would be the same, which is RM20 for every foreign registered vehicle entering Malaysia, and RM5 from that will be given to the state government," he told a press conference after the "One Community One JPJ" event here on Monday.

He added that the VEP, which will be carried out at the same time, would see a better record of vehicles entering the country.

玻璃市移民局主任莫哈末阿米尔否认网络传言,指玻璃市马泰关卡将全天候开放通关。

“我们未曾接到此项指示。”

社交媒体盛传吉玻两大重要马泰关卡,将在不久后24小时开放通关。根据面子书专页“我爱玻璃市”昨午发布消息,内容指马泰边界的巴东勿刹和黑木山关卡,将在近日宣布24小时通关。

帖子引起网民的热烈讨论,截至今早11时,已被分享615次。

根据“马新社”报导,莫哈末阿米尔否认24小时开放通关的说法,而关税局副总监拿督朱基菲里在一项活动受记者询及时,不愿置评。

据探悉,马泰边境关卡24小时开放措施可能不久后落实,各执法单位将受促加紧监督边境走私活动。

可减缓关卡塞车

另一方面,网民对此项未经证实的消息,持有正面和负面的看法,负面看法包括认为将衍生更多社会问题,尤其是家庭问题,正面的看法则认为可减缓关卡塞车现象,更方便民众出入。

马泰边界全长约646公里,共有8个关卡,除了吉玻两州,也包括霹雳和吉兰丹。

吉打共有两个关卡,即分别是黑木山关卡从清晨6时开放至深夜12时,而哥打布特拉关卡(另称榴梿勿弄关卡)则从早上8时开放至傍晚6时。

玻璃市也有两个关卡,即巴东勿刹关卡从清晨6时至晚上11时,旺吉辇则从早上8时至晚上7时。

“马新社”去年8月的报导,每周约3万人在傍晚6时后,通过黑木山关卡通关,大部分为大马公民。

随着明年全面开放东盟自由贸易区措施,马来亚铁道公司与泰国国家铁路局配合,抢先推出往来巴东勿刹及泰南合艾的柴油联车(DRC)短程火车服务。

沙比尼:加强两国推销旅业

马来亚铁道公司主席沙比尼认为,这是东盟十国推动各别旅游业,所跨出的第一步,为游客提供多一项往来两国的公共交通服务,有助于加强马泰两国推销当地旅游。

他笑言,从巴东勿刹开车到合艾去,路经14个交通灯,无形中将会拉长路程时间,再加上​​无法预料的交通繁忙情况,游客若选择乘搭柴油联车,反而比开车来得方便,也能在安排的时间抵步。

一趟行程只需55分钟

“一趟(火车)行程只需要55分钟,开车预计需要1小时至1小时30分,而且还费神,那么倒不如办理好入境手续后,坐上火车就能好好享受旅程了。”

他今天与泰国国家铁路局局长兀提察,一起在合艾推展通行大马巴东勿刹至泰国合艾的柴油联车(DRC)短程火车后,再乘坐柴油联车到新启用的泰南巴东勿刹火车站,载当地人到大马巴东勿刹火车站,让泰国媒体及居民感受马来亚铁道公司推出的电动火车服务。

沙比尼说,这项服务也有助于促进马泰两国人民的联系,尤其对那些有亲戚在邻国的人,柴油联车将会是他们的另一个选择。

兀提察:每趟可载168人

询及柴油联车的乘客人数目标,兀提察说,当局希望能每趟载送至少100人,而目前这趟列车有2节车厢,可载168人。

首搭这趟柴油联车的泰国乘客指收费比坐客车贵,他解释,车费从50泰铢至100泰铢不等,得视路程远近而定。

跨别逾40年……
暹卜间再设火车站

跨别四十余年之后,泰国巴东勿刹(俗称暹卜间)再设立火车站,挑起当地居民搭火车出门的喜悦。

来自泰国巴东勿刹的泰国华侨吴翊瑛(58岁)说,在她孩童时期,暹卜间有火车站,与大马巴东勿刹火车站毗邻,自从当地火车站拆除之后,就不再有机会在那里搭火车出门。

当她获悉泰国铁道局提供机会,给居民首搭柴油联车到大马,再尝试电动火车,就立刻广邀亲友一同来乘搭。
