Alor Setar Nasi Lemak

Zam Zam Nasi Lemak

937A Lorong Merpati, off Jalan Langgar (near St Michael’s school).
Open 7am to 2pm, 6pm to 11pm. Days off not fixed.

A NASI lemak powerhouse, this family business has been around for over four decades; there are now five Zam Zam outlets in Alor Setar.

The secret to this nasi lemak’s oomph lies in the combination of four types of gravy: kurma, a gravy from beef cooked with spices and dark soy sauce, a hot gravy, and a sweet-and-spicy one which are all served with the rice.

The result is a burst of spicy, hot and sweet flavours – a potent combination.

About 15 dishes are available daily, such as fried chicken, ayam masak merah, chicken kurma, fish curry and blanched ladies fingers.

Zam Zam Hanifa Nasi Lemak

Restoran Selera, 64T Jalan Teluk Wan Jah (opposite Menara Zakat).
Open daily 6.30am to 2pm.

THE rice served here is very aromatic – it has lots of spices and is coloured yellow with turmeric. Top your nasi lemak with a slice of beef cooked in dark soy sauce and fried honey chicken or choose from over a dozen other dishes.

Dhal curry and beef gravy are then spooned on top of the rice and dishes. An average of 16 dishes such as squid in sambal, fish head curry, fried liver and kurma chicken are served here daily.
